Do you want to save money on the cost of mobile phone calls?

Thanks to the Internet, it is possible to make phone calls and pay a lot less
than you would before.

This is especially true with mobile phones, where service plans have a limited
amount of minutes and the costs to place long distance or international
communications are often very high.

However, there is a way around these exorbitant rates charged by mobile
phone companies, using VoIP, or voice over IP.

This way, the communication would be carried over the Internet, thereby
bypassing the provider's voice network entirely.
Smartphones such as the Apple iPhone, BlackBerry, HTC, and various
Windows Mobile phones give the user a lot of flexibility, in which they can add
calls.

When you are using mobile VoIP one important thing to remember
though, is that even if you won't be charged by the minute for airtime
and long distance, all Internet phone software will use data.

Therefore, you should get a plan which includes a large amount of data
transmission, or preferably one which has unlimited data if you intend to use
your phone a lot for making Internet phone calls.

Remember, that making international calls using the phone company's
"regular" rates could cost you several hundred Dollars per month, so the cost
of a higher data plan would often be a low price to pay.

If your mobile phone supports Wi-Fi connectivity, and you are in a place which
has a Wi-Fi signal, you can also use that connection instead of the cellular
data network to call, thus saving you from depleting the megabytes in your
data plan.

As Internet telephony is a sector which is rapidly gaining expansion and
popularity, there are many service providers which have gotten in on the
action.

Having noticed that more and more users have Smartphones which are
compatible with Internet calling, many of them have developed a version of
their software which is able to run on the user's mobile phone, instead of on a
computer.

Which provider is the best for mobile VoIP calls?

There are many factors that should be taken into consideration here, the first
one would be to see if they are compatible with the type of phone that you are
using.

After all, even if they offer the best rates and features, this would all be
useless to you if the program is not able to run on the device that you are
using.

Another thing to look at is their rates and calling features.

Do they offer competitive rates per minute to the destinations that you intend
to call?

Many also offer other features, such as the ability to integrate your instant
messaging contacts so that you can also chat via text instead of voice.

Fring is a feature-packed client that lets the user communicate through
different means, such as instant messaging in addition to telephone
conversations.

They don't, however provider the service for making calls to "regular" phones,
so you would need to sign up for a SIP account at another provider that would
carry the mobile VoIP calls.

Gizmo Mobile is a plug in for Nokia mobiles running the s60 operating
system.

Only a few phones are supported for now, however more could be added
soon. They offer competitive low rates, and features such as call forwarding
and voicemail.

Skype is one of the most well known names in Internet telephony.

They currently support many different models of devices, however their fully
featured client is only available for Windows Mobile and
iPhone handsets.

One of their qualities is that if your contact is also running Skype on their cell
or computer, you can make free Skype to Skype communications.
