Making Calls and Choosing the Right VoIP Providers in Mexico

Mexico's leading telephone network is currently headed by Telmex, but because this company is generally so expensive, and because it offers very few options for international calls or texts, natives seem to be turning to more cost efficient services like those of VoIP (voice over internet protocol).
VoIP users utilize the internet to make calls through various services such as Rebtel or Vonage. These VoIP service providers in Mexico are now letting users cut down their expenses on long-distance calls by accessing the World Wide Web.

Mexico VoIP Call Fees and Rates

There are set fees for all local calls, no matter how long these calls might be. Pay phones are known to have even higher rates. National and International calls change in value depending on the time and the destination. Since these calls are usually unreasonably high, natives have begun to utilize Internet-based services and calling cards.

Using Mexico VoIP Services

VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) technology now allows users to make free and extremely cheap telephone calls. Users of certain services can also trust VoIP to make engaging video calls.

Who offers the Best VoIP Service for Mexico?

There are several "Internet Telephony" service providers out there. The best two VoIP service providers in Mexico are Vonage and Skype.

Vonage
This provider transports calls over the Internet instead of thru the telephone, though this has nothing to do with actually using the computer. A computer does not need to be on, and the destination being called does not need to support Vonage. The only equipment necessary is a basic phone and line.

Vonage now offers two packages called Vonage World and World Premium. These plans include calls to both landlines and mobile phones. With Vonage World, mobile phone calls are 10¢, and current specials include 3 months for under $10 USD (fees go up to $25.99 per month plus tax afterwards). The World Premium Unlimited package includes calling to landlines and mobile phones for $54.99 per month pus taxes. Vonage World seems to offer the best features out of the two, so this plan is the most highly recommended.

Vonage World Features:
- Make a call to up to 60 countries (un-timed calling to landlines)
- More than 10 countries w/unlimited calling-to-mobile phones
- Unlimited voicemail transcriptions sent to your cellular phone (not sure if email is included)
- Choose from caller ID, call waiting, blocking, 3 way-calling+
- Portability to take adapter virtually anywhere there's an internet connection
- Keeping your existing number is a time for celebration

Skype
This particular provider has proved to be a little more detailed in what plans and features they offer, but as much as I like Skype- I have to admit that this company does not seem to be as exquisite as Vonage is making itself out to be. Skype’s monthly subscriptions are simply basic and direct. Let’s take a look as follows, shall we?

- So you can pick the country that you wish to call, which is always good
- Plans are grouped into ‘Minutes’
- Landlines and mobile phones are included in all plans
- You can take your pick from over 170 destinations
- 15% off when signing up for a 1 year subscription (not sure how long this offer will last)
- Call any available destination 24/7 with reasonably priced rates

Monthly plans and prices are charged by the minute, and are placed into the preceding installments:
- 60 Minutes
- 17.2¢/minute
This plan currently runs for $10.29/month.

- 120 Minutes
- 16.7¢/minute
This plan currently runs for $19.99/month.

- 400 Minutes
- 12.5¢/minutes
This plan currently runs for $49.99/month.

Skype does have a few other perks to offer on top of that, like video-to-video features (with a good quality camera and microphone attached) if you would like to check this company out further.
Nonetheless, VoIP technology is not going to disappear any time soon so Mexico would do well to update its communication industry to stay in tune with the rest of the world. Telmex watch out! The best VoIP service provider in Mexico may very well be Vonage in the near future.
