If you are currently using Voice Over Internet Protocol for your call service, your set up might include a traditional landline (analog) telephone attached via an adapter, allowing you a more traditional phone experience.

A cordless device is similar to the usual cordless phones found in many households today. It is, by definition, free from any cords attaching it to a base, thereby ‘cordless’.
The difference lies in the fact that it is specifically designed to be used with an IP telephone set up.
Instead of connecting to your traditional landline telephone connection, it must have the ability to connect with your Internet service.
This allows you to convert voice into digital for transmission over the Internet. Certain Voice Over IP adapter models are considered USB cordless phones.
These phones have a base and a handset. The base is connected to your computer via a USB cord which in turn connects into a USB port on your computer.
The handset communicates through the base, but is not attached to the base. Typically, these are quite easy to set up. You might also be interested in wireless cordless phones.
These devices each have their own IP address, and connect to your computer via your existing wireless network. For any phone, check the system requirements before purchasing, to make sure you have what you need for a successful connection.
First and foremost, be sure that the phone you select will work with your current Voice Over IP set up. Next, research the sound quality of the phone in question.
You should be able to achieve equal quality to that of a landline. Determine which frequency the phone transmits on.
Confirm that it will not conflict with anything currently used in your home or office, as this can greatly impact reliability and sound quality.
Next, be sure to check the range of your telephone. Some telephones have a limited range, and may only work within 100 feet of your computer.
See whether the phone you are considering will work in a larger house or office. Confirm whether or not it will work if you step outside.
You may also need to have multiple handsets, or various features like call-waiting and voicemail. Be sure to explore all the options available before making your decision. If you are an informed consumer, you will likely have success in purchasing the appropriate it to meet your needs. |
